                          What does the “Red Door” mean?

Centuries ago, painting the front door red meant sanctuary and safety could be found inside.  Many believe that the tradition has a theological origin and many churches can be found hosting red doors both inside and out.  Others have said that a red door symbolizes that your mortgage is “paid in full” and thus painting the door red let whoever passed by know that you owned your home.  It was a celebration of home ownership!

For decades, our society has noted the red door to be a symbol of warmth and hospitality - a sign that all are welcome into our home.  Today we believe that painting the door red brings luck, prosperity, and good fortune.
