It’s a necessity right now in our nation and an important factor that we need our children to follow our steps to protect their     future. According to Mimi Swartz, from Texas Monthly, “Houston, the energy capital of the world, wants to be the environmental capital as well.”

While, our ultimate goal is to sell your house…its refreshing to know that your real estate brokerage supports your environment and is doing things to help clean it up! We would like to call ourselves, “Worker Bees for the environment and YOU!” Although you may not be able to do all of these things–      

every little bit helps.

13 Ways to Go Green with RDR

Be Bright about Light -Buy energy star rated light bulbs, they use 2/3 less energy. This will help

with showings AND save on your electricity bill.

Green Up Your Yard – Plant a tree or Perk up your landscaping for Loads of Curb Appeal

Go paperless when possible— Think before you print. Could it be stored online instead?

Let RDR email you- save a soft copy! Also-When you receive unwanted catalogs,

newsletters, magazines, request to be removed from your mailing list– to save paper!

Declutter – Donate your old books to your library- it saves paper from landfill and promotes

Reading and education, not too mention helping sell your house-RDR will even deliver for you!

Print Smarter—If you do print…..Print on both sides of paper or use old scraps. Avoid

color when possible. Buy recycled paper and ink. It keeps 2.5 pounds of metal and plastic out of

landfills and conserves half a gallon of oil!

Remodels and Repairs– Remember you can use recycled wood, newest building materials,

energy efficient appliances, etc. There’s a whole range of energy efficient products for

housing on the market today. Try to buy recycled products.

Going Green on your move—Use newspaper or recycled paper to pack. Even old

cardboard boxes rolled up to pack. Buy biodegradable packing peanuts made from

grain sorghum and cornstarch.

Create a healthy home environment– Make it a habit to use nontoxic cleaning products.

Brighten your house with live plants, which absorb indoor pollution and the house will show

better than with artificial plants. Buy furniture, carpeting, and paint that are free of volatile

organic compounds and won’t off-gas toxic chemicals.

Maximize computer efficiency—Computers waste energy. Turn it off when you’re not using it.

Screen savers don’t save energy.

Ramp up your recycling—Make it a habit to recycle everything– paper, junk mail, old cell

phones, PDA’s, cans, etc. We have a recycle bin in RDR’s office as well.

Water Watch—Provide filtered water and reduce bottled water!

Rethink your travel—Try to rent cars that are hybrids or other high mileage vehicles.

Reconsider your commute—Make it a habit to carpool when possible.
